The Global Recycling Standard (GRS) is an international, voluntary complete product standard. The content addresses supply chain manufacturers' enforcement of product recycling/recycled ingredients, chain of custody controls, social responsibility and environmental practices, and chemical restrictions, and is certified by a third-party certification body. GRS certification is designed to meet the recovered/recycled ingredients contained in products (both finished and semi-finished) for verification by the company, and to verify the related activities of social responsibility, environmental practices and chemical use. The goal of GRS is to ensure that the claims made on the relevant products are correct and responsible. This standard applies to all companies (units) that produce or sell GRS products. This includes recycled materials containing at least 20% in all products processed, manufactured, packaged, labelled, sold and used. The range of products to be certified is based on the textile product concept, but the scope of certification is not limited to the textile product industry. The GRS certificate system can be applied to all units of the supply chain: from all processing units to the end buyer's side of the business-to-business (B2B) transaction.
GRS is applicable to the textile industry on a global scale, including raw materials, finished products and all materials used in the production process, as well as the certification of green processes and environmental management of related enterprises. The standard has strict requirements for waste recycling and treatment involved in textile production, chemical materials used in the production process, and energy. At the same time, there are also relevant certification norms in trade and commodity transportation, thus ensuring product quality and environmental protection.
The global recycling standard applies to any product containing at least 20% recycled material. Starting with the recycling stage, each production stage must be certified and eventually end with the final seller in a business-to-business transaction. The collection and concentration of materials are subject to self-declaration, documentation collection and site visits.
