Brazil issued revised standards for chemical classification, SDS and GHS labeling, with a transition period of 2 years

On July 3, 2023, the Brazilian Institute of Technical Standards (ABNT) published the latest standard for the classification, Safety Data sheets (SDS) and labelling of chemicals - ABNT NBR 14725:2023, which aims to align with the seventh revision of the United Nations GHS. The official language of Brazilian SDS and labels is Portuguese.

  On July 3, 2023, the Brazilian Institute of Technical Standards (ABNT) published updated standards for the classification, Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and labelling of chemicals. — ABNT NBR 14725:2023, which is intended to be consistent with the Seventh Revision of the United Nations GHS. The official language of Brazilian SDS and labels is Portuguese.

 
The updated content is as follows:
●  The new version combines standards previously divided into four parts, including definitions, hazard classification systems, labeling, and safety data sheets, into a single standard document.
 
●  For “ Flammable gas ” The physical hazards category has been further expanded into categories 1A and 1B.
 
●  Two new hazard categories have been added: desensitized explosives and ozone hazards.
 
●  The introduction of small packaging (≤ 250 ml) new regulations on labels, which include alternative label forms such as folding labels and intermediate packaging.
 
●  The hazard (H) and precaution (P) instructions on the label have been modified.
 
●  Updates to the security data table include:
 
file name update: replace the original “ Chemical safety Data Sheet” Change to “ Safety data sheet ” To be consistent with international standards.
A 24-hour local emergency contact number is required in accordance with Section 1 of the latest Safety Data Sheet (SDS) standard.
The latest Brazilian GHS standard will come into force on July 4, 2025, with a transition period of 2 years.
