The U.S. Food Development Administration has launched a new catalog of ingredients used in products marketed as dietary supplements

Apr. 18th, 2024
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has updated the agency's ingredient catalog, including renaming the web page to information on selecting dietary supplement ingredients and other substances. These changes are the result of some constructive stakeholder feedback we have received since we originally published the catalog.
Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is releasing a new Dietary Supplement Ingredient catalog for the public to look up ingredients used in products marketed as dietary supplements and quickly find the FDA's opinion on the ingredient and whether the agency has taken any action on the ingredient. The directory is in list form and includes links to the agency's actions and correspondence for each component on the list. If there is a separate FDA web page for ingredients, the catalog links to that page. The catalog is intended to be a one-stop shop for ingredient information, which was previously found on different FDA web pages. This catalog is designed to help manufacturers, retailers, and consumers understand the ingredients that may be found in products marketed as dietary supplements and quickly find information about these ingredients on the FDA website.

It is important to note that the catalog is not intended to be a comprehensive listing of all ingredients used in products marketed as dietary supplements, and may not include all actions taken by the IAEA regarding a particular ingredient. For example, if the Agency has taken many similar actions, and some earlier actions may not be included, especially if they do not reflect the current situation of the Agency, then all actions may not be included in the list. The Forestry Development Authority will update the catalogue regularly to reflect new developments.

Because the agency is establishing an ingredient catalog, we will also eliminate the FDA Dietary Supplement Ingredient Advisory List, a rapid-response tool designed to quickly alert the public when the agency identifies ingredients in a food supplement that do not appear to be legally marketed. Anyone who registers with the Dietary Supplement Ingredient Advisory Listserve will automatically receive updated ingredient catalogs as they become available.
