"Food Safety National Standard Bamboo and wood materials and products for Food Contact" (GB 4806.12-2022)
Bamboo and wood materials are traditional food contact materials in China, with a long history of production and use. Due to the natural characteristics of bamboo and wood materials, it may cause food safety risks due to microbial breeding or the use of preservatives, mildewproof agents, bleach, etc. This standard is designed to effectively manage such risks and applies to all types of food contact materials and products made from bamboo, wood or cork. The standard specifies the raw material requirements, sensory requirements, physical and chemical indicators, microbial limits and other technical requirements of bamboo and wood materials and products used for food contact. The physical and chemical indexes specify the total migration amount, the migration limits of formaldehyde, sulfur dioxide, pentachlorophenol and its salts, and the residual limits of four fungicides, such as thiamendazole and o-phenylphenol. The microbial limit is directly based on the relevant requirements of Disinfection of Food (drink) utensils (GB 14934). The index of sulfur dioxide migration amount and residual limit of fungicide provided the corresponding detection methods.
